Welcome to my blog

Hi,

This is my new blog where you’ll be able to follow my writings and art. About 6 months ago in the middle of the pandemic I realized that I stopped coding for fun. My company Sawyer was my sole outlet for coding and that started to make code be completely about work. I wanted to build some things that weren’t web apps or Rails or really anything relating to standard web development in any way. That’s when I dove head first into the crypto space. It’s totally new and weird and the deeper you go the weirder it gets.

Alot of what I was seeing was centered around finance and trading and while interesting I’m probably never gonna build a DEFI platform(cause math) so I kept going deeper and deeper until I was on Opensea which I heard about earlier in 2020 but just kind of brushed past it.

Here I watched project after project launch with all sorts of weird internet vibes. 10k Profile Picture projects, Mint Passes, Full blown stories told through NFT’s, Generative Art, SPAM/SCAMS, and general weird shit.

The Generative art projects hit my like a ton of bricks and I was amazed by what could be done with such small amounts of code. My earliest form of coding was OPENGL, SDL game programming, and modding games like Doom and Quake so I immediately got taken back to those times in my head when being clever(hacky) with code meant you had more room for something cool. When I saw what was being produced on Artblocks.io like the Fidenza, Ringers, Frammenti, and Meridian I thought I need to try to do this.

I’m not gonna say I’m an expert in any way shape or form, but coding has never been just backend or data to me. I’ve always considered myself an admirer of design and art and finally finding a medium that I feel comfortable in has unlocked something in my brain where I’m starting to see inspiration for algorithms everywhere.

So what’s next:

  1. Launch my new site andrewfernandez.art (Done)
  2. Learn Solidity and web3.js
  3. Build and Launch my first NFT project “The Rings”
  4. Begin work on my next algo

Stay Tuned!
